Despite completing all stages of the government primary school assistant teacher recruitment process, including written and oral examinations, more than 14,000 recommended candidates would have to undergo a fresh evaluation test before receiving final appointment.

The National Primary Education Academy (NEAP) has prepared a short-term training and assessment module for the candidates, which is awaiting final approval from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

The module will be finalised following a review meeting at the ministry level.

NEAP sources confirmed the recommended assistant teachers would  undergo training under the Primary Teachers Training Institutes (PTIAs). While the standard PTIA training programme runs for 10 months, the proposed arrangement will be shortened to two to three months, followed by an evaluation test. The ministry will then decide on appointment based on the outcome of the assessment.

An NEAP official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the evaluation of more than 14,384 recommended assistant teachers would be conducted in two phases. The first phase will take place during training, where PTI authorities will assess candidates' performance. In the second phase, NEAP will prepare a question paper either towards the end of or after the training, and candidates will have to sit for a written examination based on it.
