July legacy faces ideological divide: Mahfuz 

Former adviser to interim government Mahfuz Alam said on Sunday political legacy of July uprising has been divided along ideological lines, warning a rivalry between right-wing and non-right political forces ahead of return of Awami League (AL).

Mahfuz made the remarks in a Facebook post, stating: “July’ has been divided along ideological lines. The right-wing anti-rightists will not find a place in the right-wing July organization.”

Describing the current political reality as “the July settlement,” he added: “There is a lesson here for those who want to move beyond the right-left divide. Quickly choose either the right or the non-right July and save yourself. If you do not have your own mob, not a single stone will fall to the ground.”

In a subsequent comment under the same post, Mahfuz said the ideological contest had intensified following the completion of the Citizens’ Committee project.

“This wrestling between the right and the non-right has started in full swing with the completion of the Citizens’ Committee project,” he wrote.
He further warned that the continued competition between the two camps to claim ownership of the July movement could lead to unintended political consequences.

“It will end on the day when the efforts of both sides to win this wrestling over July make the return of the League inevitable. Congratulations in advance to all the wrestlers!” he added.
