EC seeks MP list for President poll

The Election Commission (EC) has asked the Parliament Secretariat to provide the list of Members of Parliament (MPs) for the 23rd presidential election. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the date and schedule of the election will be discussed after the voter list is received.

He said this while speaking to reporters at the Election Commission building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday.

Akhtar Ahmed said no decision has yet been taken regarding the date or schedule of the presidential election.

"We have requested the Parliament Secretariat to provide the voter list. After receiving it, we will discuss the date and schedule of the presidential election," he said. The presidential election became necessary after President Md. Shahabuddin resigned from office on July 24, citing personal reasons.
