Madrasa student’s death, accused placed on 5-day remand

A Dhaka court on Thursday placed a man on a five-day remand for interrogation in connection with the mysterious death of a 10-year-old madrasa student in capital's Banasree area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted the remand after police produced the accused before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.

The accused, identified as Shihab Hossain, 20, was arrested on Tuesday from his home in Pabna's Bera upazila in connection with the death of Abdullah, a student of Alokito Quran International Hifz Madrasa in Banasree.

According to police, the hanging body of the minor student, identified as Abdullah, was recovered from a residential madrasa in Banasree on May 19. Following the incident, a case was filed with Rampura Police Station.

Investigators informed the court that the remand is crucial to unearth the exact circumstances surrounding the child's tragic death, identify any possible accomplices and gather vital evidence.

Meanwhile, the grieving family members alleged that the child had been subjected to physical abuse for a long time and suspected the involvement of others in the incident.

Police stated that all allegations are being thoroughly investigated.
