Police have submitted a chargesheet against two accused in the rape and murder case of seven year old Ramisa Akhter. The case was subsequently sent to the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal, which took cognisance of the chargesheet and fixed June 1 for the next hearing.
On Sunday, Pallabi Police Station Sub Inspector Ahiduzzaman Bhuiyan Nipun, also the investigating officer of the case, submitted the 47 page chargesheet before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ashraful Haque. In the report, the main accused Sohel Rana has been charged with rape and murder, while his wife Swapna Akhter has been named as an accused for alleged abetment.
Court sources confirmed that after reviewing the chargesheet, the court accepted it and ordered its transfer to the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal for trial. The case will now be heard by Judge Masrur Salekin of the tribunal.
After the hearing, state lawyer Omar Faruk Faruki told reporters, "This case is a very important case. The state expects the maximum punishment for the guilty. The court has taken cognisance of the charges after the hearing. The hearing of the charge sheet in this case will be held on June 1."
There was no legal representation for the accused during the proceedings. Earlier, the Dhaka Bar Association had reportedly decided that no lawyer would appear on behalf of the accused.
In the meantime, the government has appointed a state funded defence lawyer to ensure legal representation for the accused in the case. An official order in this regard was issued by the Solicitor's Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on Sunday.
The order stated that Advocate Musa Kalimullah, a member of the Dhaka District Bar Association, has been appointed as state defence counsel in the case pending before the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal. The case, registered as Child Violence Prevention Tribunal Case No. 1390 of 2026, originated from Pallabi Police Station Case No. 35 dated May 20, 2026. It has been filed under Section 9(2)/30 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 and Sections 201 and 34 of the Penal Code.
