NEW DELHI, June 5: A Bangladeshi national injured in a devastating fire at a guest house in South Delhi has died while undergoing treatment, Indian authorities confirmed on Friday.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said 13 foreign nationals were among the 21 people killed in the blaze that tore through Flourish Stay, a guest house located in the congested Hauz Rani area of South Delhi on June 3.

Around 22 foreign nationals were also injured in the incident.

Speaking at a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the foreign nationals who died included four from Nigeria, three from Kyrgyzstan and one each from Bangladesh, Congo, Iraq, Liberia, Mozambique and Uzbekistan.

The Bangladeshi victim was identified as Nurul Amin, 44, of Sangishwar village under Chiora union in Chauddagram upazila.

According to family members, Nurul had travelled to India with relatives for the medical treatment of his brother-in-law, Mosharraf Hossain, who had been suffering from kidney failure.

They arrived in New Delhi on June 2 after doctors advised Mosharraf to undergo a kidney transplant procedure there.

Nurul succumbed to his injuries on Thursday while receiving treatment at a hospital in the Indian capital.

Four of his relatives were seriously injured in the fire and remain in intensive care units at different hospitals.

The injured are Mosharraf Hossain, Nurul's elder sister Rehana Akter, cousin Umme Johora and Johora's daughter Umme Jaima.

Meanwhile, Max Hospital, located near the site of the fire, said on Friday that six foreign nationals injured in the blaze remain on ventilator support and are in stable condition.

In a statement, the hospital said 13 of the 15 patients admitted to its Saket facility following the fire were foreign nationals.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

In a related development, a Delhi court on Friday remanded Lavkesh Bajaj, owner of Flourish Stay, to four days in police custody, a day after his arrest in connection with the incident.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding one of the deadliest hotel fires in the Indian capital in recent years.
