Authorities in Gopalganj and Narayanganj carried out separate drives on Tuesday, demolishing illegal structures built on government land and reclaiming encroached public property in two upazilas.

GOPALGANJ: Authorities have demolished illegal structures built on government khas land at Ulpur Bazar in Gopalganj Sadar Upazila as part of an eviction drive along the Tekerhat"Gopalganj regional highway.

The operation was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Ruhul Amin Sharif at Ulpur Bazar.

Officials said some traders had constructed structures on government khas land in the area without obtaining proper lease or settlement approval. Despite repeated warnings from the Union Land Office, they allegedly continued construction, using influence and ignoring directives.

Following a field inspection, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) launched the eviction drive, during which three illegal structures were demolished and the encroached government land was recovered.

Union Land Assistant Officer Md Mohasin Uddin, members of law enforcement agencies, and local dignitaries were present during the operation.

Speaking on the drive, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ruhul Amin Sharif said three illegal structures were removed during the operation.

However, he added that legal action could not be taken against the owners as they were not present at the site during the eviction.

RUPGANJ, NARAYANGANJ: The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has carried out an eviction drive to reclaim a government canal in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj from illegal occupation.

The day-long operation was conducted on Tuesday in the Borpa Shantiganj area of the upazila.

Officials said powerful individuals had constructed illegal structures and boundary walls along both sides of a nearly 13-kilometre-long government canal, blocking public water flow.

During the drive, several illegal structures, including boundary walls reportedly linked to the Muzumder Group, were demolished to clear encroachments from the canal area.

Local residents welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the eviction would restore the canal’s natural flow and improve water drainage in the area.

The operation was led by Rupganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Marjanul Islam.
BWDB Executive Engineer Shuvro Ahmed and Sub-Divisional Engineer Rakibul Alam Rajib were also present during the drive along with other officials.

Rupganj Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Marjanul Islam said eviction drives to recover public canals and government water bodies would continue as part of ongoing efforts to implement government directives.
