Ad-din’s licence cancelled

The government has cancelled the licence of Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka, following an investigation into the deaths of six newborns at the facility last month. 
Abu Hossain Md Moinul Ahsan, Director (Hospitals) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), who signed the cancellation order, confirmed the decision on Thursday. 
However, the hospital has the right to appeal or seek a government review of the decision within 30 days under Section 12 of the ordinance.
According to an official order issued on 11 June, the DGHS revoked the hospital's licence after finding its response to a show-cause notice unsatisfactory. 
The committee was formed after six newborns died at the hospital on May 27. The hospital was initially asked to submit its explanation by June 7, but the deadline was extended following a request from the authorities. After reviewing the submitted response, the DGHS decided to cancel the licence under Section 11(2)(b) of the ordinance.
Meanwhile, the Health Services Division has requested additional police deployment at the hospital amid concerns over a possible deterioration of law and order following the licence cancellation.
