Bangla QR to enable P2P transfers from Nov 1

Bangladesh Bank will introduce Person-to-Person (P2P) money transfers through the Bangla QR platform from November 1, allowing users to send money instantly by scanning a personal QR code.
The move will expand Bangla QR beyond merchant payments and bring bank accounts and Mobile Financial Service (MFS) wallets onto a single interoperable platform, further reducing reliance on cash.
Under the new system, every individual will have a personal Bangla QR code linked to a bank account or MFS wallet. Users will be able to transfer money between bank accounts, MFS accounts and bank-to-MFS wallets in either direction simply by scanning the recipient's QR code.
The new Bangla QR app will connect banks, financial institutions, payment service providers (PSPs), payment system operators (PSOs) and MFS providers on one platform.
"The app has already been developed. All concerned have been informed by letter to make preparations for November 1 and connect with the app," Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and spokesperson Arief Hossain Khan told reporters.
The initiative follows the nationwide rollout of mandatory Bangla QR payments at merchant outlets from July 1. Banks, MFS providers and payment operators have since moved from separate QR systems to the unified platform, allowing customers to pay merchants through any participating banking or MFS app.
Bangla QR transactions are already gaining ground. Daily transactions now average around Tk 2.35 billion, while QR transactions between banks and MFS platforms rose to Tk 7.044 billion in June from Tk 6.376 billion six months earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
