SIRAJGANJ, June 14: Kushtia-3 MP and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mufti Amir Hamza was granted bail on Sunday in two defamation cases filed over remarks he allegedly made about Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.
Amir Hamza appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Sirajganj on Sunday to seek bail in the cases.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Chief Judicial Magistrate Suman Kumar Sutradhar granted his bail petitions.
The information was confirmed by Advocate Shakil Mohammad Sharifur Haider Rafiq Sarkar, Public Prosecutor of the District Judge Court and counsel for the complainant.
The defamation cases stem from allegations that Amir Hamza described Tuku as an "atheist" and "anti-Islamic" during a public discussion held before Friday prayers at the Hatsh Haripur Grand Mosque in Kushtia Sadar on March 27.
