RANGPUR, June 28: A Rangpur court on Sunday placed Shahriar Ahmed Sakin, a student of Rangpur Medical College, on a one-day remand in a case filed for “instigating” HSC student Nuzhat Jahan to commit suicide, who died after jumping from the rooftop of a restaurant in Rangpur city.
Rangpur Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Dr Muhammad Rashed Hossain passed the order when police produced Sakin before his court with a three-day remand prayer in the case.
The court also rejected the bail petition filed by his lawyer. On June 22, Nuzhat Jahan, a Higher Secondary Examination (HSC) candidate, died after falling from the rooftop of the Northview Hotel in Rangpur city.
Her father Nazrul Islam filed a case at Kotwali Police Station against Sakin, a private teacher of the college girl, on charge of instigating his daughter to commit suicide. -UNB
