Timer bombs recovered in Dhaka areas

A case was registered over the explosives found in Shyampur of Savar. Arif alias Imran, who was arrested in connection with the case, reportedly told the police that he followed the Neo-JMB ideology but only had the bombs. The police later detained him for six days, as the case was handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Unit.

Another case was registered over the recovery of a pressure-cooker bomb in Sadhapur of Savar, which was subsequently neutralised by the bomb disposal squad.

CTTC sources say the fight against militancy would focus on deradicalisation, legal measures and rehabilitation. According to the investigators, the Neo-JMB members used mobile applications for communication and financial transactions.

Some of the recovered bombs had components like bearings and antennas, raising the fear of them being detonated remotely.

In another development, police are investigating the explosion that occurred at the Barishal District and Sessions Judge Court. Whether the explosive was planted or thrown remains to be seen as evidence has been collected from the spot and sent for forensic analysis in Dhaka.

According to Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abu Raihan Mohammad Saleh, the CCTV footage and eyewitness account indicated that the device might have been thrown from the outside, but the issue remained under investigation.
