Commercial operations of the extended section of MRT Line-6 up to Kamalapur are expected to begin in April next year, while trial runs will start in January, project officials said.

Project Director of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project, retired Brigadier General Md Abdul Wohab, said test runs will be conducted at night along the full Uttara North-Kamalapur route after regular passenger services.

Officials said about 77 per cent of the extension work had been completed by June. Major civil works at Kamalapur station have already been finished, while track installation and station finishing works are now underway.

The 21.26-kilometre MRT Line-6 currently operates between Uttara North and Motijheel. The extension to Kamalapur is scheduled to open for passengers in April 2027.
