The Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has launched two publications on vetiver-based bioengineering aimed at promoting climate-resilient infrastructure development and sustainable engineering solutions in Bangladesh.

The books were unveiled at the Academia-Industry Collaboration and Book Launching Programme organized by the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), BUET, with support from Samuda Construction Ltd., at the RISE Seminar Room on Thursday.

BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Eqramul Hoque attended the event as the chief guest, while Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury was present as the special guest. RISE Director Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam emphasized the need to convert academic research into practical solutions through stronger collaboration among universities, industries and government institutions.

The publications titled “Standard Specification for Slope Stabilization using Vetiver Grass” and “Vetiver-based Bioengineering for Slope Stabilization: A Practical Guideline for Bangladesh” were authored by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Shariful Islam, a researcher in bioengineering, climate-resilient infrastructure and disaster risk reduction.

The first book presents technical standards and international best practices for slope stabilization using vetiver grass, while the second provides practical guidelines tailored to Bangladesh for designing and implementing vetiver-based stabilization systems.

Developed through years of research, field applications and collaboration with government agencies, development partners and industries, the publications are expected to become important references for engineers, policymakers, researchers and contractors working on sustainable infrastructure projects.

The programme ended with the formal unveiling of the books and a networking session, highlighting BUET’s continued efforts to advance research, innovation and environmentally sustainable engineering practices in Bangladesh.
