Construction works of Maniknagar road begins

Published : Friday, 10 July, 2026 at 12:00 AM
The construction works on the long-neglected Maniknagar main road in Dhaka has begun as the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) launched a project to improve connectivity, ease public suffering and support wider transport reforms in the capital.

The road construction project at Ward No. 7 under the DSCC officially began on Thursday.

The foundation stone for the project was jointly laid by State Minister for Railways and Road Transport and Highways Habibur Rashid Habib and DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam.

The project will improve the 880-metre stretch of road from Maniknagar Bishwaroad to Maniknagar Pukurpar.

Officials said the road would make travel easier and reduce public suffering in the area.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, Habibur Rashid Habib said the road had been neglected for many years, causing problems for local residents. He said the project would improve communication and ensure better public services.

Abdus Salam said repairing damaged and neglected roads had been one of DSCC's main priorities. He hoped the work would be completed by December this year while maintaining high construction standards.

Earlier, the DSCC administrator led an eviction drive at the Sayedabad Bus Terminal to remove illegal structures and improve traffic management.

He said that two control rooms at the entrance and two control rooms at the exit would be set up to manage the movement of buses. Bus operators have been asked to move all ticket counters inside the terminal by July 15, following government instructions.

Sayedabad will operate only as a city bus terminal in the future, he added.

Inter-district bus services will be shifted to Kanchpur, while bus operations from Gulistan will be moved to Keraniganj, Habib said, adding that these steps would bring visible improvements to the capital’s transport system within the next 3-4 months.
