The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds in most parts of the country today. At the same time, a high risk of landslides is in place due to heavy to very heavy rainfall in Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari.
In addition, the relevant river ports have been asked to display warning signal number 1 as gusty or stormy winds of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour are expected over 13 regions of the country.
The special warning issued by the Storm Warning Center of the Meteorological Department said that due to the influence of the low pressure area located in central Uttar Pradesh and adjacent areas of India and the strong monsoon winds active in the North Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur in Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangamati and Khagrachari districts from July 11 to 12. According to the forecast of mathematical models, a total rainfall of 100 to 300 millimeters may occur in these districts during this period.
The forecast for the country's inland river ports from 5 am to 1 pm today (July 12) has said that there may be rain or thunderstorms with gusty or squally winds from the south or southeast at a speed of 45 to 60 kilometers per hour over Rajshahi, Pabna, Tangail, Dhaka, Faridpur, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla and Chittagong regions temporarily from the south or southeast. Due to this, the river ports in these areas have been asked to display warning signal number 1.
On the other hand, the Meteorological Department's nationwide forecast released last night said that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur in most places of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions until 6 pm today. At the same time, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
