KHULNA, July 12: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju on Sunday inspected the progress of repair work on the Alutala Sluice Gate, locally known as “Dosh Gate”, at Mathabhanga as part of efforts to prevent water-logging in the city.
During the inspection, the KCC administrator said water had already receded from most areas of the city that experienced water-logging following three consecutive days of heavy rainfall. However, he cautioned that forecasts indicate the possibility of more rains in the coming days.
To address the situation, Manju said KCC has formed three monitoring committees to prevent water-logging. He added that officials and staff are working to remove obstructions from drains and canals to improve water flow across the city.
The administrator stressed the need to renovate all sluice gates in phases and hoped that repairs to the damaged gate would be completed within the next four days.
He also inspected drainage flow and waste management activities in Matiakhali and Labanchara areas under Wards 30 and 31, in addition to the Dosh Gate site.
Among others, KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed, Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Conservancy Officer Md Ahiduzzaman Khan, Ward Executive Officer Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar, Assistant Engineer Md Obaidullah Khan, Sub-Assistant Mechanical Engineer Md Selimul Azad and local dignitaries were present during the inspection.
