Harnessing youth potential to build prosperous future stressed

World Population Day-2026 was observed in different districts including Gopalganj, Panchagarh and Rajbari on Sunday with the emphasis on harnessing youth potential to build a prosperous future.

This year’s theme of the Day was “Realising the hopes and aspirations of young people �" today and for the future”.

GOPALGANJ: On this occasion, the district administration and the Department of Family Planning jointly organised a discussion meeting in the district, where Member of Parliament (MP) of Gopalganj-2 Constituency Dr KM Babar was the chief guest, and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Arif-uz-Zaman was in the chair. It was attended by Zilla Parishad Administrator Md Rafiq-uzzaman, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Habibullah, and Deputy Director (DD) of the Department of Family Planning Md Sohel Parvez as special guests.

The speakers at the meeting said that the population of a country is affected by various aspects including education, economy, development, standard of living and social degradation. Child marriage, early motherhood and apathy among men regarding family planning are still major challenges.

At the end of the meeting, 20 people were honoured for their contributions in various categories.

PANCHAGARH: On this occasion, a rally was brought out from the DC office on Sunday morning that paraded through the main roads of the town and ended at the same location. Later, a discussion meeting was held in the DC office conference room.

Earlier, State Minister for the Ministry of Water Resources, Farhad Hossain Azad, inaugurated the Day’s programmes by releasing balloons.

DC Shukria Parveen chaired the meeting. Also present were SP Abu Sayeem, Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr Mizanur Rahman, DD of the Department of Family Planning Modabber Hossain, and many others.

After the meeting, certificates and crests were distributed among the best performers/institutions.

PIROJPUR: To mark the Day, the district administration and the Department of Family Planning jointly organised a discussion meeting at DC office conference room on Sunday noon chaired by DC Abu Sayied, while Additional DC (General) Md Alauddin Bhuiyan Jony and DD of the Department Tuhin Kanti Ghose also spoke. 

Among others, Medical Officer of CS office Dr Arif Hasan, political party leaders, officials the Department, government officials and journalists were present in the programme. Prizes were distributed among best performers in the family planning sector.

RAJBARI: On this occasion, the district administration and the District Department of Family Planning organised a discussion meeting in the DC office conference room on Sunday afternoon chaired by DD of the Department Abu Nasar Mohammad Kadar Uddin, while DC Afroza Parveen spoke as the chief guest.

Additional DC (Revenue) Ashikunnabi Talukder was present as the special guest, and Assistant Commissioner Abu Raihan moderated the event. Besides, Assistant DD of the Department Md Ashraful Islam and concerned persons were present.

In his speech, DC Afroza Parveen said that the trend of child marriage is increasing alarmingly in the society which should be prevented through the active role of the Department’s field workers.

She also said, “Not only population control, but also the field workers must be aware of the overall development of children and adolescents. Whether the children and adolescents of the family are becoming excessively addicted to social media or whether they are getting involved in the evil effects of drugs - these issues must also be kept in mind.” 

After the discussion meeting, DC Afroza Parveen distributed awards among the employees and officials of the Department.
