One more dies of dengue

350 hospitalised

One person died from dengue fever in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while 350 new patients were admitted to hospitals during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The health authorities said the nationwide dengue death toll has reached 25 so far this year. Among them 48 percent of the patients are male, while 52 percent are female In its regular dengue update issued on Sunday, the DGHS said the highest number of new hospital admissions was recorded in Barishal Division with 95 cases, followed by Khulna Division with 70.

During the reporting period, During the reporting period, 53 patients were admitted to hospitals under the Dhaka North City Corporation, 44 under the Dhaka South City Corporation, 31 in Chattogram Division, 31 in areas of Dhaka Division outside the two city corporations, 17 in Mymensingh Division, four each in Rajshahi and Sylhet divisions, and one in Rangpur Division.

With the latest figures, the total number of dengue cases reported in the country this year has risen to 8,323. Among them 61.1 percent of the patients are male, while 38.9 percent are female, according to the DGHS.

Public health experts have urged people to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, maintain clean surroundings and seek prompt medical attention if they develop symptoms of fever.
