BNP’s National Standing Committee has expressed satisfaction over the progress of key government initiatives and decided to intensify organisational activities ahead of the upcoming local government elections. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at his Gulshan office on Saturday night.

Standing Committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Babu Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Begum Selima Rahman and Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku attended the meeting, while Mirza Abbas joined virtually.

Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir briefed the members on the implementation of decisions taken at the previous Standing Committee meeting.

The committee reviewed the progress of the government's priority programmes, including the Family Card, Farmer Card, canal excavation programme and the allowance schemes for mosque imams, muezzins, temple priests, church fathers and Buddhist temple caretakers. The members expressed satisfaction with the progress of these initiatives.

The meeting also discussed the implementation of the party's election manifesto. Members praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's efforts and expressed hope that the targets set out in the manifesto would be achieved within the scheduled timeframe.

The Standing Committee condemned what it described as the Opposition's attempt to mislead the public over the July Charter and referendum issues. It decided to strengthen campaign activities to clearly explain the party's position to the people and instructed the concerned individuals and organisations to take the necessary steps.

The committee also discussed elections at different levels of local government and called on all party units to intensify their organisational activities. It decided to hold a meeting of the National Executive Committee as soon as possible and assigned the Secretary General to make the necessary arrangements.

The meeting reviewed the results of the 2026 National Parliament election. Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan was asked to prepare a comprehensive report on the election.

Members were also briefed on the Prime Minister's recent visits to Malaysia and China. The committee praised the agreements signed with the two countries and welcomed their cooperation in Bangladesh's economic development. It congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on what it described as a successful visit.

The Standing Committee expressed deep concern over the renewed conflict between Iran and the United States following the ceasefire. It urged both countries to end the fighting and resolve their differences through dialogue, saying the conflict is harming the economies of the Middle East and many other countries.
