Nahid’s big no ‘a single taka’ lost to graft

National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip in the National Parliament Md Nahid Islam vowed that not a single taka allocated for the construction and renovation of embankments would be allowed to be lost to corruption, saying that the party would pursue parliamentary oversight to ensure proper utilisation of public funds.

Nahid made the remarks after visiting flood affected areas in Anwara upazila of Chattogram and distributing relief among affected families on Sunday.

During the visit, he said hundreds of families in the coastal upazila remained marooned due to prolonged waterlogging. According to local residents, the embankment has contributed to the persistent inundation.

Alleging widespread corruption during the previous Awami League administration, Nahid said, Several lakh crore taka allocated for embankments was looted during the previous Awami League government. This year's budget has also allocated funds for this sector. We promise you that we will not allow even a single taka of this allocation to be embezzled through corruption.
