
A former Bangladesh Bank official died after being electrocuted while checking a submerged water pump at his home in the capital’s Shonir Akhra area under Kadamtali on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Md Rezaul Karim, 62, a former additional director of Bangladesh Bank.
The incident occurred around 9:30pm when Rezaul was inspecting a water pump submerged in rainwater at his residence, according to a relative, Md Baki. He lost consciousness after being electrocuted.
He was first taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around midnight.
Rezaul, a resident of Shonir Akhra, is survived by two children.
Confirming the death, Mohammad Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
