Heavy rain likely to persist across Bangladesh for next five days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across much of the country over the next five days as the active monsoon continues to influence Bangladesh.

In its latest weather bulletin issued on Monday, meteorologist Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallick said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely in most parts of the country over the next 24 hours, while very heavy rainfall is expected at places in Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

The BMD said the active monsoon is likely to cause moderate to very heavy rainfall in parts of these divisions on Monday, leading to a slight fall in daytime temperatures, while night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

Rainfall intensity may ease slightly on Tuesday, with both day and night temperatures likely to rise marginally.

On Wednesday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds are expected at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at some places in Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of the country.

From Thursday, rainfall is expected to intensify again, with heavy to very heavy showers forecast for most areas of Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions. Temperatures are likely to decline as rainfall increases.

The department said the wet weather will continue through Friday, with moderate to very heavy rainfall expected across much of the country, particularly in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

According to the BMD, the prevailing heavy rainfall pattern is likely to persist for at least the next five days.
