Road communication between Bandarban and the rest of the country, including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Dhaka, resumed on Monday after a four-day suspension caused by flooding.
Bus services from Bandarban to Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar restarted at noon after floodwaters receded from the highways. However, transport operators said services have not yet fully returned to normal due to low passenger numbers.
Traffic on the Bandarban - Chattogram highway had been suspended since July 8 after continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods submerged the road at the Bajalia Dastidarhat area.
According to local sources, floodwaters began to recede on Sunday evening, allowing vehicle movement to resume from Monday afternoon.
The manager of the Purbani Bus Counter said bus operations had remained suspended since July 8 because the road was underwater. Although services resumed on Monday, buses are departing only when there are enough passengers.
Bandarban has been affected by severe flooding since July 7 following days of heavy rain and hill runoff, disrupting road links with the rest of the country. Road communication with Rangamati and several internal routes in Bandarban remains suspended.
