Sinner retains Wimbledon title
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon crown on Sunday, overcoming Alexander Zverev in four sets to claim his fifth Grand Slam title.
Sinner defeated the German 6-7 (7), 7-6 (2), 6-3, 6-4 in a hard-fought final at the All England Club.
The match turned in Sinner's favour during the third set when Zverev slipped on the grass and injured his knee, leaving the German unable to mount a strong comeback.
The victory marked Sinner's first tournament since his second-round exit at the French Open, as he bounced back in style to lift another major trophy despite the challenging hot conditions in London.
"This victory means a lot because after Paris it was another difficult challenge," Sinner said. "I'm proud of myself and my team, who always encourage me to stay on the right path."
With the win, Sinner extended his dominance over Zverev, registering his 10th consecutive victory against the German. Zverev, who recently captured his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open, had never progressed beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon before this year's campaign.
