Rodri joins Barcelona

Rodrigo Hernández has finally joined Barcelona, signing a contract with the Catalan club until 2030 after completing his move from Manchester City.

Barcelona officially announced the signing on Tuesday, confirming the arrival of the 30-year-old Spanish midfielder in one of the summer transfer window’s most high-profile deals.

Rodri, who had one year remaining on his contract with Manchester City, completed his medical at Barcelona’s Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex on Tuesday morning after arriving in the city on Monday.

The midfielder had reportedly attracted interest from several major clubs, including Real Madrid, while Manchester City were also keen to extend his contract. However, Rodri’s desire to join Barcelona played a key role in completing the deal.

He is scheduled to be officially presented to Barcelona supporters during the Gamper Trophy match on Wednesday.

Rodri joined Manchester City in 2019 and enjoyed a highly successful spell under Pep Guardiola, winning the Champions League, four Premier League titles and the Club World Cup.

The Spain international has now returned to La Liga, where he previously played for Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, and will become part of Hansi Flick’s Barcelona project.

At Barcelona, Rodri will reunite with several of his Spain teammates, including Dani Olmo, Eric García, Ferran Torres, Gavi and Joan García.

The move marks a major addition to Barcelona’s squad as the club looks to strengthen its midfield and compete for major honours in the coming seasons.
