Extensive security measures have been taken in Gopalganj on July 16. Five platoons of BGB have been deployed to maintain law and order in the district. Along with this, members of various law enforcement agencies including police, RAB have continued patrolling since Wednesday morning. Members of law enforcement agencies have also patrolled in various areas of the district at night.
Besides, BGB members have started patrolling important areas of the city since Thursday morning. RAB and police are also jointly patrolling with them. Police check posts have been set up at various important points of the city. Along with this, law enforcement members in plain clothes are also on duty.
It is worth noting that on July 16, 2025, five people were killed in a clash between law enforcement agencies and Awami League leaders and activists in Gopalganj over the NCP march. Security has been beefed up in Gopalganj, mainly due to fears that any untoward situation could arise and the law and order situation could deteriorate on this day. Along with this, the BGB has been deployed.
On the other hand, on the occasion of the July Martyrs' Day, the day was observed on Thursday morning with a wreath-laying ceremony and a discussion meeting at the July Martyrs' Memorial Monument to be built.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Parishad Auditorium.
BNP leaders and activists, including Gopalganj-2 constituency MP Dr. KM Babar, Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-uz-Zaman, Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah, District Council Administrator Sharif Rafiquzzaman, were present at these programs.
