Bangladesh witnessed a troubling human rights situation during the first six months of 2026, according to the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS). The organisation recorded-
-133 deaths in mob violence, 56 political killings and 5,246 people injured in 830 incidents of political violence.
- 3 killed and 2,578 injured in 396 election-related violence.
-More than 600 businesses, houses, party offices and election offices were attacked, vandalized, looted and set on fire.
- 1,621 women and girls faced abuse, 320 women were killed in domestic violence and 1,077 children were subjected to abuse including 305 deaths.
- 404 rape victims, including 238 children, while 17 victims were killed after rape alongside 88 women and children have been gang-raped.
- 147 women have committed suicide
- 23,121 people were arrested, including 22,995 Awami League leaders and activists.
-383 journalists faced torture or harassment in 200 attacks, 49 faced threats, 15 cases filed against 33 journalists, 11 were detained, alongside restrictions on 40 meetings and rallies.
- 11 deaths in law enforcement custody or alleged gunfights and 58 prison deaths.
- 9 killed and 35 injured in 32 attacks by BSF on the India-Bangladesh border, while at least 173 people were pushed and 416 other people tried to push in through different borders.
- 1 killed, 5 injured, 5 shot and 80 arrested in 20 incidents of violence on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border, while 6 killed and 3 injured in a landmine explosion planted by the Arakan Army.
