Man arrested with 50 pieces of Yaba pills in Bogura's Nandigram

Police have arrested a man alongwith 50 pieces of yaba tablets in Nandigram upazila of Bogura district.

Arrested Hossain Ali, 36, was detained around 10:30PM on Friday (July 17) from the College Para area of Nandigram municipality.

According to local sources, Mostafizur Rahman Tarek, General Secretary of the Nandigram Upazila Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), and Rakibul Hasan Polin, President of the Nandigram Municipal JCD, apprehended the Ali with assistance from local residents. 

Police later arrived at the scene, recovered 50 yaba tablets from his possession, and took him into custody.

Residents alleged that Hossain Ali was previously involved in the wooden fuel-stick business, supplying wood to various hotels. They further claimed that his lifestyle changed dramatically after August 5, 2024, with a noticeable improvement in his financial condition despite coming from a low-income family.

Locals also alleged that he now owns several motorcycles, a luxury vehicle, and a large residence, raising questions about the source of his wealth. 

Mostafizur Rahman Tarek and Rakibul Hasan Polin alleged that Hossain Ali had been involved in drug trafficking in the College Para area and other parts of the upazila for an extended period. Acting on confidential information, they conducted an operation with the help of local residents, during which the suspect was detained and the yaba tablets were allegedly recovered.
