Two found dead at Santhia, Singra

Two persons were found dead in Santhia Upazila of Pabna District and Singra Upazila of Natore District in two days.

SANTHIA, PABNA: Police recovered the body of a banned Awami League (AL) leader from Ratanpur Uttarpara area of Bholbaria Union in Santhia Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased Abdus Shukur, 40, was the son of late Rokon Pramanik of Ratanpur Village in the upazila. 

Rumi Biswas, son of Abu Yunus Biswas, President of Bholbaria Union AL, said that the deceased Abdus Shukur was the vice-president of Ward No. 9 AL of the union.

According to the deceased’s family and local sources, Abdus Shukur went missing on Friday night. As family members couldn’t find him, they informed the Ataikula Police Station (PS) on Saturday. Locals saw a body in Ratanpur area on Saturday afternoon and informed the police. Later, the family members identified the body with the help of the police. 

Officer-in-Charge of the PS Mujibur Rahman said that the body was sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 

SINGRA, NATORE: A diving team has recovered the body of a child from a canal near her house in Chhota Chaugram of Singra Upazila of the district on Friday night, 8 hours after she drowned in the canal. 

The deceased Suravi Khatun, 7, was a class one student of Chhota Chaugram Government Primary School and the daughter of a day-labourer Khalilur Rahman of the village.

According to field sources,  the child went missing while playing near her house on Friday noon. Later, the fire service diving team recovered the body from the canal at 8 pm. Yusuf Ali, a member of Singra Fire Service, confirmed the recovery of the body.
