Three killed in road mishaps in two districts

Three people were killed and six others injured in separate road accidents in Jamalpur District and Sherpur Upazila of Bogura District in two days.

JAMALPUR: Two women were killed and three others injured after a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a bhotbhoti on the Jamalpur�"Dewanganj regional road in the Betmari area under Charbani Pakuria Union in Melandah Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The identities of the two women who died could not be confirmed immediately.

The injured are Mojibor, 55, Jibon Mia, 35, and Tushar, 38, all from Katharbil area of Dewanganj Upazila.

According to eyewitnesses, the CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was travelling from Dewanganj to Jamalpur when it collided head-on with the bhotbhoti. One woman died on the spot, while another died on the way to Jamalpur General Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Melandah Police Station (PS) ATM Mahmudul Haque confirmed the incident and said police are trying to identify the victims.

SHERPUR, BOGURA: A jhalmuri seller was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a water tanker and an auto-van on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in the Ghoga Battala area of Sherpur Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was Joynal Abedin, 42, a resident of Gorta Village in Bhabanipur Union of the upazila.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a water tanker of Abdul Monem Company, moving in the opposite direction, collided with an auto-van, leaving Joynal Abedin dead on the spot.

Among the injured, Md Bakht Jamal, 45, and his wife Kulsum Begum received primary treatment, and Shah Alam has been admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Sherpur Highway PS OC Ayub Ali said that the water tanker has been seized.
