Rahul Gandhi Protests Outside PM's Residence

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday staged a sit-in protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence over the Delhi Police crackdown on the Parliament march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday.

Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Wayanad MP and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders, reached the Prime Minister's residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg and raised slogans demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The government deputed Union Minister Jitendra Singh to the protest site, where he was seen speaking with Rahul Gandhi.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress had marched to the Prime Minister's residence to seek answers over what he described as the brutalities against students during Monday's protest. He also demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister.

Police urged the Congress leaders to end the sit-in outside the Prime Minister's residence. A video shared by the Congress showed Rahul Gandhi distributing zip ties among party leaders, who tied their wrists together so they could not be detained. Police also placed barricades on the road leading to the Prime Minister's residence to stop more protesters from reaching the site.

Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain said the party was demanding the Prime Minister's resignation and accountability.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to meet those injured during Monday's police action against CJP supporters, who had marched to Parliament demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over question paper leaks ahead of competitive examinations.

A Congress MP said party MPs were not informed in advance about the protest outside the Prime Minister's residence and were told about it only after gathering at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament earlier, Rahul Gandhi criticised the police action against the protesters and said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should resign.
