Police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from beside the Barishal-Dhaka highway near the Bir Sreshtho Captain Mohiuddin Jahangir Bridge on Tuesday.

The body was found around 10:00am after local residents alerted Airport Police Station.

According to locals, the woman, believed to be over 50, had been seen wandering around the highway for the past few days. They suspected she may have been mentally unstable, although police have not confirmed the claim.

Residents believe she may have been struck by an unidentified vehicle before falling into a roadside ditch, but the exact circumstances of her death remain unclear.

Police said the woman's identity has yet to be established, while a Crime Investigation Department (CID) team is working to identify her and determine the cause of death.

Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station Md Shakhawat Hossain said legal procedures were underway to establish the woman's identity and the circumstances surrounding her death.
