Curb Railways Corruption

Letter To the Editor
Dear Sir,

The railway is one of the most affordable and time-efficient modes of public transport. Unfortunately, corruption involving some dishonest railway employees is undermining this important service and causing significant financial losses to the government.

As a regular train passenger, I have observed that ticket black marketing remains a serious problem. Some unscrupulous employees allegedly work with ticket scalpers, making it difficult for genuine passengers to obtain tickets. In addition, some staff reportedly allow passengers to travel without valid tickets in exchange for cash. These illegal practices deprive the government of substantial revenue every year while causing inconvenience and frustration to law-abiding travellers.

If these corrupt activities are effectively addressed, Bangladesh Railway can become a more efficient and financially sustainable public institution. I, therefore, urge the authorities to strengthen monitoring, ensure accountability, and take strict action against those involved in corruption. This will help protect public revenue and ensure better services for passengers.
