United International University (UIU), with the support of the IEEE UIU Student Branch, successfully hosted the Extended BEAR Summit 2026 on its campus on July 24.

This event was organized as a precursor to the National Semiconductor Symposium and BEAR Summit 2026. Students were provided a unique platform to engage with globally renowned researchers, academicians, and industry innovators in the fields of biotechnology, electronics, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and semiconductor technologies.

The summit functioned as a vibrant hub for knowledge exchange, aiming to strengthen collaborative ties and innovation between Bangladesh's academic community and leading international technology experts.

Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Muhammad Mustafa Hussain, Professor at Purdue University and Chief Architect of Silicon River & BEAR, underscored the critical importance of international collaboration, research-driven innovation, academia-industry partnerships, and talent development in building a robust semiconductor ecosystem in Bangladesh.

The summit featured engaging plenary sessions by Dr. Ahmed Bahai, Chief Technology Officer of Texas Instruments, and Prof. Dimitri Peroulis, Senior Vice President of Purdue University Online. They shared valuable insights into semiconductor technologies, AI, and the future of higher education.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Bich-Yen Thi Tran, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Semiconductor Professional Association (VSPA), and Jayavel Pachamuthu, Distinguished Engineer at SanDisk. Their discussions focused heavily on technological leadership, semiconductor innovation, and next-generation memory technologies.

Furthermore, distinguished experts from Applied Materials, CREDO, Arizona State University, NXP Semiconductors, and YES delivered lightning talks. These covered a wide array of topics, including semiconductor manufacturing, advanced electronics, research commercialization, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies.

An interactive question-and-answer session fostered lively discussions on global research partnerships, local talent development, and Bangladesh's expanding role in the global semiconductor value chain.

UIU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Professor Emeritus and Executive Director of IAR Dr. M. Rezwan Khan, alongside faculty members, officials, researchers, and students, attended the program.

The insightful event concluded with a dynamic networking session and a research poster exhibition presented by fellows of the Center of Research Excellence in Semiconductor Technology (CREST).
