A new gas well has been discovered at big Charigaon village under Nabipur Union in Senbagh upazila of the district.

The exact gas reserve will be determined after 45 days of drilling followed by a 15-day Drill Stem Test (DST).

However, it is initially estimated that around seven million cubic feet of gas per day could be added to the national grid if the drilling and testing are completed successfully.

Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) inaugurated the drilling work on Tuesday.

Full-scale drilling operations began on Wednesday morning. The project has been named the "Sundalpur-4 Evaluation-cum-Development Well Drilling Project."

According to BAPEX sources, an initial target has been set to drill up to a depth of 1,550 meters underground.

Zakir Hossain Khan, Drilling In-Charge of the project, said that the total gas reserve will be confirmed after 45 days of drilling and 15 days of DST testing. Drilling began on Tuesday and will continue uninterrupted. He added that the initial target has been set at 1,550 meters.
