HSC candidate sits for exam hours after father’s funeral in Naogaon

Defying overwhelming grief to fulfill her late father's dream, an HSC examinee from Naogaon sat for her Biology examination on Wednesday, just hours after attending her father's funeral. The story of Ayesha Siddika Mou has drawn admiration for her resilience and determination in the face of personal tragedy.
Ayesha Siddika Mou, a science student of Nazipur Government College in Patnitala upazila, appeared for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Biology examination at Nazipur Women's College examination centre on Wednesday.
According to family members, her father, Mizanur Rahman, died on Tuesday afternoon at Ibn Sina Hospital in Dhaka after suffering from a lung disease. His death left the family devastated, as he had long dreamed of seeing his daughter pursue higher education.
His funeral prayer was held at the family's ancestral home in Mongolbari village at 9:00 am on Wednesday, followed by his burial. Despite the family's grief, relatives encouraged Ayesha to take the examination, believing that her father would never have wanted her education to be interrupted.
After bidding her father a final farewell, she headed directly to the examination centre and completed her Biology exam.
The late Mizanur Rahman, a resident of Madrasapara area under Ward No. 3 of Nazipur Municipality, served for many years as the principal of Gangra Islamia Girls' Alim Madrasa in Dhamoirhat upazila. As an educator, he dedicated his life to shaping the future of countless students.
Local residents said Ayesha's decision to sit for the examination despite her personal loss demonstrated extraordinary courage and commitment to her father's lifelong dream of education.
Patnitala Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rifat Ara expressed sympathy over the incident.
"I have learned about the matter. Losing a father during the examination period is an indescribable pain. I pray for the eternal peace of the deceased and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family," she said.
The UNO also praised Ayesha's resilience, sense of responsibility and determination, adding that she would meet the student personally and that the local administration would try to stand by her during this difficult time.
