The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) ordered ex- minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui to be sent to jail in connection with a crimes against humanity case over the May 5-6, 2013 crackdown on the Hefazat-e-Islam rally at Motijheel's Shapla Chattar.

The order was passed on Thursday by a three-member tribunal headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury after hearing a prosecution petition seeking his detention.

Following the order, the tribunal also allowed two applications filed by the defence. Defence counsel Abdullah Al Harun Bhuiyan was granted permission to file a vakalatnama and to meet his client at the tribunal's detention facility.

Soon after the order was pronounced, Latif Siddiqui attempted to address the court from the dock.

"Honourable court, I am drawing your attention. I am drawing the attention of the Honourable court," he repeatedly said into the microphone after the proceedings had concluded.
