BAGERHAT, Aug 1: The annual election of the Bagerhat District Bar Association-2026 was held on Thursday.
In the election, BNP leader Advocate Sheikh Wahiduzzaman Dipu, nominated by the Democratic Lawyers’ Panel, was elected president with 241 votes, and Advocate Md Jalal Uddin Mallick, nominated by the General Lawyers' Unity Council, was elected general secretary (GS) with 250 votes. In the election, independent candidate Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun Hridoy was elected executive member with 235 votes.
A total of 38 candidates contested against 17 posts, including 9 editorial and 8 executive member posts. The results were announced around 12 midnight after the election.
Among others, Advocate Abdul Oli of the Democratic Lawyers’ Panel was elected senior vice-president with 233 votes, Advocate Sheikh Md Sahibur Rahman Saheb of the General Lawyers' Council was elected junior vice-president with 220 votes, SM Mahbub Morshed Lalon of the Democratic Lawyers’ Panel was elected joint GS with 245 votes, Advocate Sheikh Moniruzzaman was elected finance and accounting affairs secretary with 265 votes, independent candidate Advocate Maqbul Hossain was elected assistant secretary (books and furniture) with 189 votes, Advocate Md Sajjad Hossain of the Democratic Lawyers’ Panel was elected assistant secretary (sports affairs) with 256 votes, and Advocate BM Nurul Islam of the General Lawyers’ Unity Council was elected assistant secretary (literature and culture affairs) with 169 votes.
In the executive member posts, the Democratic Lawyers’ Panel nominated Advocate Sharmin Akhter, Advocate Md Kamrul Islam Sumon, Advocate Md Saidul Islam Elin, Advocate Bijoya Lopa, Advocate Ayesha Siddika, Advocate Fakir Isadul Haque of the General Lawyers’ Unity Council and Advocate Jannatul Ferdous were elected.
