Political stability essential for dev, investment 

Dutch Ambassador in Dhaka Euris van Bommel has stressed the importance of political stability for development and investment prospects in Bangladesh, while calling for regular dialogue between the government and opposition.

He also praised the constructive and positive role of the opposition in Parliament.

The ambassador made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Opposition Leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman at the opposition leader’s official residence on Minto Road in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, with the two sides discussing Bangladesh’s current political situation, democracy, human rights, bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the Netherlands, and opportunities for trade and economic cooperation.

The Dutch ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary (Political Affairs) Javed Azauwi and Senior Political Adviser Lubain Chowdhury Masum.

During the meeting, Dr Shafiqur Rahman appreciated various initiatives undertaken by the Netherlands to support Bangladesh’s economic development, address climate-related challenges and provide assistance to Rohingya refugees.

The ambassador, in turn, appreciated the opposition’s constructive and positive role in Parliament. He emphasised that political stability is crucial for ensuring sustainable development and creating a favourable environment for investment in Bangladesh. He also underscored the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and communication between the government and opposition to strengthen democratic practices and political understanding.
