AL has no capacity of doing anything: Home Minister

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that Awami League can only give threats and warnings; they have no capacity to do anything.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Monday, (August 3). 

The Home Minister said, "Awami League has no capacity to cause sabotage. Sitting abroad, they only issue some threats and warnings."

Salahuddin Ahmed also informed that a meeting has been called by the government and its affiliation parties on August 5 to mark the anniversary of the July mass movement. 

Law enforcement agencies are on high alert, even though extremist groups are active, he added. 

Regarding former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed, who was detained in Dubai, he said, "The government has taken all initiatives and is trying to cancel his bail and bring him back home."

He also spoke about the attack on National Citizens' Party (NCP) programs. The Home Minister said an investigation into the matter is underway. 

Besides, US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor expressed satisfaction after visiting Bangladesh and holding a meeting with the Prime Minister, he added.
