Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina is set to make her first public appearance since leaving Bangladesh, addressing a virtual event hosted by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia (FCC South Asia) in New Delhi on August 5.

Hasina is expected to discuss her political plans during the programme, which will be livestreamed on the organisers’ social media platforms. The event will mark her first public engagement since arriving in India after leaving office in August 2024, reports India Today.

Among those expected to join the event are Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former cricketer and ex-MP Shakib Al Hasan, along with several diplomats, analysts and rights advocates.

Bangladesh’s political landscape has changed significantly since Hasina’s departure. Following the February 2026 general election, the BNP formed the government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Legal proceedings against several former Awami League leaders are continuing, while the party’s political activities remain suspended pending court proceedings.
