Two killed in road mishaps

Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Gopalganj District and Fakirhat Upazila of Bagerhat District in two days.
GOPALGANJ: An unidentified elderly woman, 70, was killed when an unknown vehicle crushed her while she was crossing the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Gopinathpur area of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Tuesday morning.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhatiapara Highway Police Station (PS) Rokonuzzaman confirmed the incident and said that after the vehicle hit the woman, she fell beside the highway and died on the spot. Later, on information, the Highway Police recovered the body and sent it to the Gopalganj morgue for an autopsy.
FAKIRHAT, BAGERHAT: A freedom fighter, who was seriously injured after being hit by a speeding motorcycle in front of the New China Diagnostic Centre adjacent to the upazila intersection of the Bagerhat-Rupsa old highway while walking towards his house from the Fakirhat Dakbungalow intersection on Monday night, died on the way to the hospital on the same night.
The deceased Sheikh Abdul Gaffar, 82, was the son of late Ranju Master of the Baraghat area of Notun Ghoshgati of Mollahat. He had been a permanent resident of Attaki Ward No. 1 in Fakirhat for a long time.
Fakirhat Model PS Sub-Inspector Bhabatosh Kumar said that the motorcyclist was injured in the accident.
