Rumeen questions ban on Hasina's speeches

MP Rumeen Farhana has questioned the ban on broadcasting speeches by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, saying similar restrictions had once been imposed on Tarique Rahman.

The lawmaker for Brahmanbaria-2 argued that if the earlier restrictions were not democratic, the current practice cannot be described as democracy either.

On Wednesday, after a MP Rumeen Farhana has questioned the ban on broadcasting speeches by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, saying similar restrictions had once been imposed on Tarique Rahman.

On Wednesday, after a reception and discussion marking July Mass Uprising Day at Sarail district coucil auditorium, Rumeen drew a comparison between the two situations.

Rumeen says preventing political speeches from reaching people is no longer possible in the digital era.

“Media isn’t just 26 channels anymore. These days, everyone has media in their hands. Whoever wants to listen, will listen. You simply can’t stop someone’s statements from reaching people this way.”�"bdnews24
