Following the recent tragic death of Souvik Roy in a parasailing accident in Cox's Bazar, another tourist has died while bathing in the swimming pool of a five-star hotel, named Baywatch along Marine Drive in Ukhiya upazila.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (August 4) afternoon at the 'Hotel Baywatch' located near Inani Beach. The tourist had entered the pool with his family members, and police suspect he died of a cardiac arrest.
The deceased was identified as Meraj Ahmad, 38, hailing from Munshiganj district. According to eyewitnesses, Meraj fell unconscious shortly after entering the pool. Hotel authorities rescued him and rushed him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead upon arrival.
Hotel sources said Meraj Ahmad had arrived in Cox's Bazar from Munshiganj on Monday for a two-day vacation accompanied by his wife and child, checking into Hotel Baywatch in Inani. Around 3:00PM on Monday, he entered the swimming pool with his family before suddenly losing consciousness.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman Majumder stated that Meraj Ahmad suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming in the pool.
"Based on conversations with family members, it was learned that Meraj Ahmad had a pre-existing heart condition.
An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed with Ukhiya Police Station in this connection. Following an application from the family, the body was handed over to them without an autopsy on Wednesday," the OC added.
