HC issues rule over removal of Upazila Vice Chairmen

The High Court on Thursday issued a rule asking the authorities to explain why the government notification removing vice chairmen and women vice chairmen of Upazila Parishads should not be declared illegal and without lawful authority.

The rule was issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice Razik Al Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury after holding a preliminary hearing on a writ petition challenging the legality of the notification.

Senior Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub represented the petitioners during the hearing.

The writ petition was filed by Md Abu Saleh, general secretary of the Upazila Parishad Vice Chairmen and Women Vice Chairmen Association.

The court directed the respondents to respond to the rule within the stipulated time.
