Bangladesh Bank, RAB-3 and the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) have decided to strengthen information exchange and technical cooperation to combat cybercrime, money laundering, online gambling and crimes involving mobile financial services (MFS).
The issue was discussed at a town hall meeting jointly organised by RAB-3, Bangladesh Bank and BFIU at Bangladesh Bank’s head office in Dhaka on Thursday (August 6).
The meeting discussed measures to strengthen banking sector security and prevent cybercrime, money laundering, hacking and online gambling. Participants also stressed increased monitoring to prevent the misuse of banking channels for money laundering.
The meeting also discussed making electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) mandatory to strengthen the security of bank accounts and help identify and close fake or anonymous accounts.
RAB-3 Additional Superintendent of Police and Intelligence and Media Officer Md Mehedi Imran Siddiqui said the three agencies would continue exchanging information and providing technical support to identify cybercriminals quickly and bring them to justice.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director Khandaker Sirajul Islam, Additional Director Md Rabiul Islam, Additional Director (Retd) Major Abdullah Noor Faruk, and officials from BFIU and RAB-3 attended the meeting.
