Preventing diabetes requires more than hospitals and medical treatment, as it needs a wider social movement involving science, faith-based values and community participation, State Minister for Health Dr MA Muhith said on Wednesday.
“Preventing diabetes cannot be achieved through healthcare facilities alone. It requires the combined efforts of science, social awareness, religious values and community engagement,” the state minister said while speaking at the International Prevention Summit (IPS) 2026 in the capital, where he called for stronger collaboration among health professionals, religious leaders, policymakers and communities to tackle the growing burden of diabetes.
The summit, held under the theme “Faith-Based Diabetes Prevention”, brought together global health experts, researchers, development partners and faith leaders to promote evidence-based prevention strategies and public awareness.
