Man arrested with fake cash trying to buy gold

A man was detained while allegedly attempting to purchase gold jewellery with fake currency in Banani of Dhaka.
According to a Press Release by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the incident occurred on Thursday, August 6 at a jewellery shop in Banani Super Market.
The convict is identified as Md Rubel Ahmed Fakir, 46. Law enforcement team found Tk 57 lakh and five thousand counterfeit banknotes from his possession.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division Niaz Mehdi said, two suspects entered the jewellery shop pretending as customers around 4:00PM. They asked the shop staff for 20-21 bhori of gold ornaments for a relative’s wedding.
After choosing the jewellery and having the items packed, the suspects took out bundles of cash from a black trolley bag and put them on the glass counter to make the payment.
The shop employees became suspicious after examining the money and identified the notes as counterfeit. Realizing they would be caught, the two men attempted to flee. Local people managed to catch one of them, while the other escaped.
A team from Banani Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterward and formally arrested the suspect.
Police officials said, eight criminal cases were registered against Rubel at different police stations across the country. Efforts are underway to arrest his absconding accomplice while legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
