Child drowns in a pond after football match

An eight-year-old boy tragically drowned in a pond after taking a bath following a football match in Kotchandpur upazila of Jhenaidah on Friday.

The incident took place around 12:30PM in Hardanga Vidyadharpur West Para village under Baluhar Union.

The deceased was identified as Siam Hossain, 8, the only son of Shariful Islam of the village.

Family and local sources said Siam left home around 11:00AM to play football with friends at the Hardanga Vidyadharpur Government Primary School ground. After the game, he went to take a bath in a nearby village pond and suddenly sank underwater.

Upon hearing the news, family members rushed to the spot. Local residents launched a search in the pond and recovered Siam in an unconscious state.

He was immediately rushed to the Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.

Kotchandpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ansarullah confirmed the incident, stating that a police team was sent to the scene and necessary legal formalities are underway.
